Yi Thoothukudi Rural Initiative: Smart Learning Projects
Yi Thoothukudi takes its first inaugural step in contributing towards smart rural education and communication. Yi Thoothukudi Chapter is glad to announce the launch of the Smart Learning project at TNDTA School in Governagiri today. Yi members contributed the infrastructure for setting up smart learning for rural students. The Rural Initiatives team was supported by DHAN Foundation in the process. The project was initiated this morning by the primary school students learning about the seven world wonders through a short video tutorial. The Rural Initiatives team looks forward to mentoring the students in their education and development.

Yi Thoothukudi Outdoor Cross chapter learning - Coastal Convergence 2020
Young Indians - Thoothukudi Chapter, organised a two-day learning cross-chapter visit. The programme was planned to give Yi members from other chapters a good understanding of the leading industries in Thoothukudi, as well as a taste of the local culture. All participants gathered on Day 1 morning on a visit to the Thoothukudi Port. VOC Port officials hosted participants for a presentation and tour of the port facilities, including a boat ride. Yi members visited Venus Home Appliances manufacturing unit for a presentation by company CEO, Mr.Murali Ganeshan.
Day 1 learning session of Coastal Convergence was followed by a cultural evening at Sawyerpuram farm. Yi members joined the Pongal celebrations of the international auto- rally team, organised by the Travel Scientists. Mr.Aravind Bremanandam of Travel Scientists organised a submersive Tamil cultural experience. All participants divided themselves into teams and competed in cooking a traditional Pongal sweet-dish on an open pot and fire. It was a good opportunity for members to interact with each other and the auto-rally participants. The evening ended with a traditional Pongal meal.
Day 2 of Coastal Convergence began with a visit to the KSPS Salt Pans in
Veppalodai. Yi members visited SMS Salt Refinery to understand the processing
of raw salt to edible form. Mr.Chakravarthy gave a presentation on the salt production and guided members on a tour of the salt pans. This was followed
by a visit to the prawn aquaculture unit, Farm Fresh. Participants were taken through
the process of prawn culture.
Members had a Q&A
session at the Veppalodai Guest House, followed by lunch.
Day 2 of Coastal Convergence learning session was
followed by an evening of water sports at Aqua Outback. All participants went out on kayaks and tried out water sports.
This was followed by dinner
at the beach. The evening was organised to give members an opportunity to relax
and network over group water sports and dinner. Yi members brought their families along for the final evening
of Coastal Convergence.

YiThoothukudiChapter organized an Industrial visit to Sibaflor, a dried flower manufacturing unit supplying to clients around the world. Yi members had the opportunity to learn from the best green practices adopted by the company towards sustainability in the long term.

YiThoothukudiChapter organised a Masoom session at Natarajan Primary School at Kattinaickenpatti. 70 rural students were sensitised about safe touch. The children were interactive during the session and eager to participate in class.

Yi Mission Clean Tamirabarani River
YiThoothukudiChapter organised an expansive river-cleaning drive in collaboration with the Tuticorin Corporation. The Tamiraparani river was cleared of unwanted growth along river banks across 45 locations in the Thoothukudi district. Members of CII and Young Indians provided rubber gloves, caps, cleaning materials, food and machinery for the 3-day process. Yi members took responsibility for Marudur Anicut in Thoothukudi District and organised a clean-up of the river banks with students from Thoothukudi Medical College. Thoothukudi District Collector, Mr. Sandeep Nanduri, set an example for the students by initiating the cleaning in the morning. The event created awareness among students and the surrounding villages on the importance of protecting our rivers and keeping the riverfront clean.

Yi ThoothukudiChapter conducted an awareness session on Road Safety at Vikasa School for 6th grade students. A pilot of the Kiddie Cop project was initiated to make road safety awareness more interactive for children.

Yi Thoothukudi Chapter members had an interactive session with Mr Sandeep Nanduri IAS, District Collector of Thoothukudi. He made plenty of time in his busy schedule to understand the projects handled by Yi. He also suggested several projects that we can collaborate on to create a better city. An immediate outcome is the city stakeholders meeting on rain water harvesting to be organised with Yi in August.
Yi Hyderabad - Awareness Session on Gift An Organ
Yi Thoothukudi Chapter conducted Gift an Organ awareness camp at Kamaraj College, with an address by Mr Prakash, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thoothukudi. The GAO van was received on campus and flagged off to the next venue by the DSP.

Yi Thoothukudi Chapter organised a banking awareness session for high school students in a rural school. Yi member, Mr.Kaliraj, explained how to fill bank forms correctly and gave the students at Natarajan High School confidence to handle basic banking.

YiThoothukudiChapter organised career counselling sessions for rural students. Mr Dhanush Mathan, Yi member, guided the high school students through different career options at Natarajan High School. The students gave positive feedback after the session. It was interesting to observe that a good number of girls wanted to contribute to agriculture.

Yi Thoothukudi Chapter- Awareness Session on Save Water
Yi Thoothukudi Chapter organised an awareness session on water conservation at Vikaasa school for UN World Water Week. Children received pamphlets and bookmarks on water-saving tips that can be applied at home. Yi member, Mrs Madhana, an environmental planner, explained the significance of water conservation and guided the children through water saving methods. Mr Madhan delivered special address. The students volunteered with energy and enthusiasm to apply it at home.

Yi Thoothukudi Chapter organised ‘Coffee with CEO’ learning session with Mr Sangara Lingam, Chairman of Menaka Cards. He shared his successful journey as an entrepreneur and emphasised the value of ethics in business. His production unit at his native village near Tirunelveli provides jobs for local youth and enables rural women to be more independent. His passion for his work is an inspiration to all young entrepreneurs.

Yi Thoothukudi Chapter members had a memorable learning visit to the port today, aboard vessel BBC Plata. The German ship is transporting windmill blades from Tuticorin to USA, with an international crew on board. Members were guided through the ship, all the way from the control room to the engine room.
Yi Coffee With CEO Session with Mr Edwin Samuel
Yi Thoothukudi Chapter members had a meaningful discussion this week with Mr Edwin Samuel, CEO of Pearl Shipping Agencies and Past Chairman of CII Thoothukudi. The ‘Coffee with CEO’ session gave members a ringside perspective of a first-generation entrepreneur in the shipping industry. Mr.Samuel left us with the thought that the most successful entrepreneurs in India come from regions that played a significant role in the freedom struggle, and that wherever there is visionary leadership, growth is bound to follow. He highlighted how his habit of reading shaped his career and life, encouraging Yi members to read more books to move ahead.

The CII office in Thoothukudi has initiated the process of launching a separate chapter for Yi in our city, as we feel that an organization like Yi will provide an opportunity for the youth of our city and the region at large to actively involve them in nation building initiatives with passion and commitment.
The Launch of Young Indians (Yi) Thoothukudi Chapter has started with the energetic welcome address Mr V Krishna Shankar Vice Chairman, CII Thoothukudi. He elaborated the journey of Young Indians (Yi) Thoothukudi chapter from the outreach program to the launch and also appreciated the hard work and efforts by the members of young Indians and CII team. Ms Fathima Bathool Maluk Yi Regional Chair-South TN explained the evolution and the road map of Young Indians. Mr Annush Ramasamy National Vice Chairman, Yi addressed on leadership at Yi and advised the young Indians of Thoothukudi to Inspire and work as a team. Mr D Senthil Kannan, Past Chairman, CII Thoothukudi shared his experience and knowledge. Mr Srikant Suryanarayan, Past National Chairman, Yi National & Managing, Director, Ishka Farms, he encouraged and motivated the members of Young Indians Thoothukudi to actively participate towards nation building in collaboration with students and youths of Thoothukudi. Mr Annush Ramasamy has announced the Chair and Co-Chair of Young Indians (Yi) Thoothukudi chapter respectively.
